Development of Novel Saccharide Receptors

Our objective is the rational design and development of receptors for the specific binding of diverse sugars (monosaccharides) in aqueous solution, based on chelation of saccharide OH-groups and taking advantage of CH-π interactions between the receptor and the sugar. The receptors will be constructed in a modular way, such that the OH-coordinating groups will be placed at different positions. Thus, a whole family of receptor molecules specific for various sugars will be generated.
