Structure-Based Design and Synthesis of Potential Inhibitors for the Antimalarial Target IspF

IspF (2 C-Methyl-D-erythritol 2,4-cyclodiphosphate Synthase ) is a crucial enzyme in the non-mevalonate pathway of isoprenoid biosynthesis, which is present in many bacteria, some algae, and protozoa such as the malaria parasite Plasmodium. Since mammals exclusively use the alternative mevalonate pathway, IspF is a highly interesting antimalarial target. The aim of this project is to design and synthesise new inhibitors of IspF using MOLOC, a molecular modeling program developed by Hoffmann-La Roche.
