Functional Materials Based on Chiral Allenes

Allenes have a 90˚ twist around their central carbon atom and are axially chiral when appropriately substituted. Previously, our group has developed stable and enantiopure 1,3-diethynylallene (DEA) building blocks. These have been applied in the synthesis of polymeric and macrocyclic functional materials having remarkable opto-electronic and chiro-optical properties. We are currently interested in developing molecular systems that allow for transfer or amplification of DEA chirality.
